Sidebar: This write-up was done in November 1987. I decided to leave it as is in memory of someone very special. To learn more about "Sugar", go to the E-Books section and download "My Guardian Angel".
Hi, my name is Mike Smith. I have been an avid fisherman since I was 6 years old (1946). I don't know of a better activity for any kid from 5 to 95. I have become disabled and cannot go fishin' like I used to. I am also devoting much of my time to my best friend and fiance, "Sugar" Teschendorf, who is in her fourth battle with cancer and is determined to win. If you want to know more about Sugar. Visit us on the WEB at "Mike & Sugar's Special Place" Home Page. We live in Ontario, NY on 8 beautiful acres of woods with deer, turkey, Canadian Geese and other assorted wildlife. It is an inspiring place to be. We have a nice pond just 30 feet from our front door that gets much of my attention. We have Large Mouth Bass, Bullheads, Huge Bluegill and Rock Bass. I also enjoy "Trophy Bass 2" from Sierra. Just few years back, who would have thought you could go Bass fishin' on a personal computer? In 1983 I was writing a weekly fishin' article for a small newspaper in a small town in Arizona. I wanted to come up with something special for the holidays just for Fishin' Folks. I had been trying to convert "The Night Before Christmas" for almost a year with no results. One morning in October I woke up around 3:00 am, fixed a cup of coffee and set down to relax. All of a sudden the first part of "A Fisherman's Christmas Eve" popped into my head. I picked up a piece of paper and a pencil and within 30 minutes it was complete. I took it to my editor and she said "let's print it on the front page." The response was fantastic. What a great Christmas present I had given to the folks of our small community. I sent a clipping of the poem to my father in California. He loved it so much that he had copies made and gave them to all of his friends. In 1989 my dad went to that special fishin' place in the sky. I went to see my mom and on the wall of their living room was the original clipping I had sent him with a note saying "My son wrote this". At that time I decided to make it into something special and do it in memory of my father. My dream then, as it is now was to put some happiness in peoples lives. "A Fisherman's Christmas Eve" has done just that. I have distributed over a thousand copies of the prints to friends, family and other special people I have come in contact with. It has put happiness in many lives, not just at Christmas, but all through the year and years. Friends and family have requested it as much in July as at Christmas.
In 1990 I was sitting by my Puter cleaning my reels and tackle box after coming home from a great fishin' trip. We had been to one of my favorite bass lakes in Central Arizona and caught some awesome Bucket Mouths (largemouth bass). I was joking with my kids about some of the stuff in my tackle box. Several of my lures had joined each other in a tangle of treble hooks and a jar of catfish bait had come open. Well, to say the least I not only had a mess, it smelled pretty ripe from the bait. My youngest son, Michael said "Dad, this would be a really funny newspaper article. Write about your stinky lure mess". Well, the next morning I sat down to play a game on the Puter and saw my fishin' pole leaning against the wall. I asked myself "Now what would be funny about a fishin' pole?" I fired up the word processor and by the time I dug through the tackle box, I had a little booklet which I appropriately named "Funny Descriptions of Fishin' Tackle". I have since put it into an E-Book which you can download from the E-Book section of this E-Book along with several other E-Books I have written.
